Paul O'Toole appointed new Director General of FAS

Appointment of new Director General

The Board of FÁS today announced the appointment of Mr. Paul O’Toole as its new Director General

Mr. O’Toole has been Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland since July 2001, which was established under the Terms of the Good Friday Agreement and operates under the auspices of the North/South Ministerial Council. Mr. O’Toole took over responsibility for the overseas promotion of tourism to the Island from the former Bord Fáilte and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

Mr. O’Toole is a native of Co. Wicklow. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and holds a Master of Business Studies degree from the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business.

Mr. McLoone said that Mr. O’Toole is a highly committed individual with 18 years of senior management experience including seven and a half years in his current role as CEO.

Mr. O’Toole has had extensive exposure to both public and private sectors with significant experience of working with the political system, Government Departments and public and private sectors in both jurisdictions.

The FÁS Chairman, Mr. Peter McLoone, said that he was delighted that Mr. O’Toole had accepted the position.

Mr. O’Toole is expected to take up his position in the near future.
